This morning we woke up early and hiked up Koko’s Head. We guessed that we’d make it to the top in under an hour, and we did. We made it up in 40 minutes. But it was definitely a cardio workout! And very hot out! The path up was an old railroad track and so the railroad ties become like steps. It’s so steep though that at some points you’re hunched over forward to keep your balance. I don’t see how a train could have ever made it up there. It was so ridiculously steep. It was more like a roller coaster track! The view from the top was amazing though. You walk around the edges and we had an almost 360 degree view. Ocean views on many sides. There were some old military bunkers up there as well. We decided to not drag out the return back and kill our calves and thighs, so we ran down. 12 minutes! Once at the bottom my knees were knocking. Like crazy. But it would’ve been worse if we walked down it. It felt so good to have gotten in a good workout. I hadn’t dripped sweat that bad in a long time. …okay on to more pleasant topics. 😉 After that Becca’s uncle came and picked us up and we went to a couple of scenic spots to take pictures along the coastline. Then we went home and relaxed for a couple hours and then in the late afternoon we went out to Waikiki again. We did some shopping and people watching, took pictures of the sunset, and then went back home. Ate a delicious supper, showered and then watched a movie and thus was the end of my first week in Hawaii.
It doesn’t look like it in the pictures, but this path was so steep up close to the top that you have climb hand over knee.
